Building Capacity of Eligible Organizations

Berea President Larry Shin explains plans to make the campus more energy efficient.
The Challenge: Helping the Fund’s eligible organizations to be financially healthy, organizationally sound and strategically responsive to the changing needs of their communities and constituents. This task is complicated by the eligible organizations’ diversity in size and capacity — they range from small, local organizations to large, nationally-recognized institutions.
Strategies: The Fund employs a range of strategies, including peer convenings, CEO and Board support and training, and targeted initiatives, as well as investments tailored to individual organizations.
Examples:
In the late 1990s, the Fund launched a multi-year year initiative to build the capacity of child-serving nonprofits in Jacksonville, Florida. To learn about the work, read Notes from the Field on the Jessie Ball duPont Community Building Fund.
Working with the Center for Public and Nonprofit Leadership at Georgetown University, the Fund created a program to strengthen the leadership of its eligible organizations. To learn more, read Notes from the Field on the Nonprofit Institute at Georgetown University.
