The Fund recognizes that one important aspect of church ministry is the communal worship and fellowship of the congregation. Congregations need a place to gather. The Repair & Restoration program is designed to help congregations maintain their physical facilities and ensure that they are energy efficient.
Once every five years, eligible congregations may request a Repair & Restoration grant to repair existing buildings or retrofit their buildings for greater energy efficiency. Grants are not automatic and awarded through a competitive process.
Churches with annual incomes of $150,000 or more are eligible for a 2:1 matching grant up to a maximum of $50,000. Churches with smaller budgets are not required to contribute a matching dollar, although grants will not exceed $50,000.
Applying congregations must submit an energy audit with their Repair and Restoration grant application.
For projects whose total cost exceeds $75,000, the Fund also will offer up to $25,000 in interest-free loans. The congregation must provide a written plan to repay the loan within five years.
Before applying, eligible congregations should contact the Jessie Ball duPont Fund program staff about the project they wish to undertake.
