Summer in Port St. Joe, Florida

After lunch and a rousing game of kickball, campers at the Port St. Joe summer program gather for a photo with their counselor outside of the Washington Recreation Center. The camp, in its eighth year, provides free recreation, academics and field trips for children in the small, beachfront community. The Jessie Ball duPont Fund has provided ongoing support for the program. (Photos by Ingrid Damiani)

  • CareerSource Gulf Coast’s no-cost weekday camp serves children from age 4 through the mid-teens. With a record 180 children participating in 2018, the camp required additional space. Gulf County School Superintendent Jim Norton made space available in Port St. Joe Elementary School classrooms for the youngest children. Camp activities include reading, supervised playtime, nutritious meals, and organized activities with a structured curriculum.
