New Jessie Ball duPont Community Building Fund Benefits Virginia’s Northern Neck

The trustees of the Jessie Ball duPont Fund awarded River Counties Community Foundation, Kilmarnock, Virginia, an affiliate of the Community Foundation for a greater Richmond, $50,000 to establish the Jessie Ball duPont Community Building Fund.

The grant was among 22 awards, valued at $1.3 million, made by the trustees during their fall meeting.

The new funding vehicle expands the Jessie Ball duPont Fund’s ability to invest in organizations in Virginia’s Northern Neck, specifically the seven counties served by the Fund. Many of the area organizations currently providing the most critical work for people in need either were not in existence during Mrs. duPont’s lifetime or are not eligible for support from the Jessie Ball duPont Fund because of the restrictions in her will.

The partnership with the River Counties Community Foundation will complement the ongoing work with the Fund’s current grantees, providing greater flexibility in the Fund’s strategic grantmaking, and expanding important community services by leveraging local dollars with collaborative investments.

Also approved at the trustee meeting was a $50,400 grant to St. Mary’s Whitechapel Episcopal Church, Lancaster, Virginia, to work in partnership with the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Northern Neck to continue providing access to high-quality after-school programming to youth in Upper Lancaster County.

The Jessie Ball duPont Fund works to expand access and create opportunity by investing in people, organizations and communities that were important to Jessie Ball duPont. The Fund has assets of $309 million and has awarded more than $376 million in grants since 1977.
